Correction Corner

Surprise … we’re not perfect!

We’re both concerned neighbors and parents who are extremely worried about the performance, cost and direction of our school and school district. We’re reading through meeting minutes, agendas, state reports, school reports … and sometimes we make mistakes.

But we would rather ask 10 questions about things that are worrying to us rather than ask none and be safe.

We also will share the correct information when it is given to us – far more of a commitment to the truth than we see from our school on the academic performances.

Regionalization Study Meeting, 05-Sep-2024

  • Algebra at FTS – the Regionalization Study states “The most recent assessment results show that no students were currently enrolled in Algebra [in Franklin]” – whereas there are students taking the class.
  • State Aid – this actually amounts to approximately 9% of the total FTS budget.

Standing our Ground

At the Regionalization Study meeting Matt stated that the cost/student for Franklin was $35k, and a board member noted the cost was $23k. We agree that the state publishes a $23k/student number but the numbers from the Regionalization Study report are clear.

Town # Students 2022-23 Budget (in $000s) Cost/Student
Franklin 265 9,330 $35,208
Union 472 12,148 $25,737
Bethlehem 363 8,867 $24,427

If anyone wants to explain the background to the state numbers we are all ears, but the Regionalization Study speaks for itself.
